The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fired back at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rejecting its interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling and accusing the commission of bowing to alleged government pressure.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party claimed INEC’s position was riddled with contradictions and failed to reflect the true intent of the appellate court’s directive.
The ADC alleged that the electoral body acted under pressure from a “panicked government” unsettled by the party’s growing momentum, warning that such actions could undermine democratic principles.
“We reject INEC’s interpretation. Its statement is full of contradictions that fly in the face of facts and reason,” the party declared, insisting it would soon expose what it described as inconsistencies in the commission’s stance.
The opposition party further accused INEC of taking sides against Nigerians, stating that the commission had “caved to pressure” in the ongoing leadership tussle.
Amid the escalating dispute, the ADC disclosed that it is reviewing its legal and political options, with plans to announce its next line of action in the coming days.
The party also urged its members and supporters to remain calm and steadfast, assuring them that developments would soon unfold.
The latest exchange deepens the crisis rocking the ADC, raising fresh concerns over the independence of electoral institutions and the stability of Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
