Quick intervention by troops of Sector 5, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), has helped prevent a reported farmland dispute from escalating into a wider confrontation in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at Kwatas in Tarangol District at about 6:35 p.m. on August 31, 2026, after security personnel received information that cattle were allegedly grazing on cultivated farmland.
Acting on the report, the troops promptly moved to the area to assess the situation. On arrival, they reportedly found a herd of cattle grazing on the farm.
The soldiers subsequently moved the cattle to their location for further necessary action, helping to de-escalate the situation and prevent possible clashes between farmers and herders.
The intervention underscores the continued efforts of Operation ENDURING PEACE to contain flashpoints and forestall conflicts between farming and pastoralist communities across Plateau State.
The security forces are maintaining surveillance in the area as relevant authorities take steps to address the incident and ensure that the dispute does not develop into a broader security challenge.
Operation ENDURING PEACE has continued to focus on protecting lives and property while promoting peaceful coexistence among communities in areas considered vulnerable to farmer-herder tensions.
