A 70-year-old man has been arrested by the Bauchi state police operatives over the alleged defilement of an 8-year-old girl in Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis.
The case, according to the Bauchi Command spokesperson, SP Nafi’u Habib, was reported at ‘E’ Division Yelwa on Wednesday, 26th August, 2026 by a 48-year-old father, of Tsakanin Bayara suburb of Bauchi metropolis.
SP Nafi’u Habib said that on Sunday, 24th August, 2026, one Usman Abubakar, a 70-year-old man, of the same address, allegedly lured his 8-year-old daughter to an uncompleted building in the area where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
He recalled, “Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Division promptly swung into action and arrested the suspect. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. The victim was immediately taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and care”.
The State Command Commissioner, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has condemned the act in strong terms, and assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect charged to court in accordance with the law.
CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu explained that the case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for sexual violence and child abuse, and urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The commissioner assured that his command would sustain the fight against sexual and gender-based crimes in the state.
