Boko Haram terrorist has surrendered to troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, with a Rocket-Propelled Grenade launcher and bomb.
The surrender, which occurred at about 9:20 AM on Wednesday, is the latest indication of the impact of sustained military operations on terrorist networks across the North East.
According to a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters OPHK, the terrorist voluntarily gave himself up to troops in Pulka.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he had previously operated within the Mandara Mountains axis, a known terrorist enclave along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
At the point of their surrender, the troops recovered the following one rocket-propelled (RPG) launcher, one RPG bomb, and one mobile phone
The surrendered fighter is currently undergoing profiling and preliminary investigation in line with established procedures.
The Theatre Command said the development reflects the growing pressure on terrorist elements and their diminishing freedom of action across the theatre of operations.
“It also underscores ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to degrade terrorist capabilities and encourage those still bearing arms to abandon terrorism and embrace peace,” the statement added.
The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations, denying terrorists freedom of movement, and creating the conditions necessary for lasting peace and stability in the North East region.
Security analysts note that the recovery of heavy weapons such as an RPG from a surrendering fighter signals a weakening of logistics and morale within the insurgent groups operating around the Mandara Mountains.
