Road Revival Sparks Support: Analysts List Fresh Reasons to Back Tinubu

By Abdullahi Inuwa

Political analysts are pointing to renewed infrastructure development as a key reason Nigerians may rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly known as Asiwaju, ahead of future political contests.

At the center of the conversation is the ongoing reconstruction of the Ilorin–Jebba–Mokwa–Bokani highway, a once notorious route that had long been plagued by poor conditions, delays, and safety concerns.

Experts say the transformation of the corridor under the supervision of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, signals a broader commitment to infrastructure renewal aimed at boosting economic activity and easing transportation challenges.

“This is not just a road project; it’s an economic lifeline,” a political analyst noted, highlighting its importance in connecting key commercial zones and facilitating trade across regions.

For years, commuters and transporters endured high costs and travel risks along the route. With reconstruction now underway, expectations are rising for reduced travel time, improved safety, and increased movement of goods and services.

Observers argue that such visible projects could shape public perception of the administration’s performance, particularly in areas where infrastructure directly impacts livelihoods.

They also note that sustained delivery on key projects may strengthen political confidence, especially if accompanied by improvements in other sectors like security and the economy.

However, analysts caution that infrastructure gains alone may not be enough, emphasizing the need for consistency, transparency, and tangible benefits across all regions.

As the political landscape gradually heats up, developments like the Ilorin–Jebba–Mokwa–Bokani road project are emerging as critical talking points—fueling debate over leadership, performance, and the road ahead for Nigeria.
