KANO POWER PLAY: OFFICE HOLDERS RALLY AROUND KWANKWASO, REJECT YUSUF’S APC SWITCH

Political tension is rising in Kano as several serving office holders and lawmakers have openly declared loyalty to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, rejecting reports of an imminent defection by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The declaration, which cuts across the Kano State Executive Council, civil service leadership, and the National Assembly, signals a growing internal resistance within the ruling camp and a possible fracture in the famed Kwankwasiyya political structure.

DEFECTION RUMOURS SHAKE NNPP

Despite the show of loyalty to Kwankwaso, reports indicate that Governor Yusuf has allegedly secured significant political backing for a potential move to the APC—a development that could formally end his long-standing alliance with the former Kano governor.

Political observers say such a defection would not only deepen divisions within the NNPP but also ignite fresh tensions within the powerful Kwankwasiyya movement, long regarded as the backbone of Kano politics.

As Kano braces for the fallout, the battle lines appear drawn: Kwankwaso’s loyalists are holding their ground, while the governor’s next move could redefine the state’s political future.
