A wave of anger and frustration has reportedly swept through the ranks of bandits operating in Katsina State following the confirmed death of Biliya, a senior lieutenant to notorious bandit commander Kachalla Muhammadu.
Biliya was reportedly killed after his gang walked into an ambush by troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA during a botched operation around the Matazu axis of the state.
Intelligence monitored on August 14 revealed that the bandits themselves later confirmed the death of the commander, providing fresh insight into the circumstances surrounding the operation.
The confirmation reportedly emerged at about 11:34 p.m. during a conversation between two suspected members of the criminal network, identified as Mamiyo and Juli Asso Maha.
Juli reportedly sought clarification on Biliya’s whereabouts after his prolonged absence raised concern within the group. Mamiyo, who had returned from Kachalla Muhammadu’s location, allegedly confirmed that Biliya had led a group towards the northern part of their operational area in Matazu.
According to the account, the gang entered an undisclosed town during the operation and Biliya was left inside a shop while other members moved on.
It was reportedly during this movement that security forces launched an ambush against the group.
Biliya was caught in the ensuing operation and killed, with members of the gang later returning to their leader’s location and confirming his death.
The development reportedly triggered anger among the bandits, with Juli expressing fury over the loss of the senior lieutenant.
Beyond the reported death of a key commander, the incident offers a glimpse into the operational pattern of the bandit network, including its continued attempts to penetrate communities and conduct criminal operations around the Matazu axis.
Biliya’s reported elimination could also create a significant leadership gap within Kachalla Muhammadu’s network, particularly if he played a role in coordinating fighters and field operations.
Troops conducting operations across Katsina and neighbouring states have continued to target bandit commanders, fighters, hideouts and logistics routes in an effort to weaken the criminal networks.
The reported setback suffered by Kachalla Muhammadu’s group comes as security forces intensify pressure on armed groups operating across the North-West.
As of press time, there was no official statement from the security authorities confirming Biliya’s reported death.
