MAIDUGURI — Troops of 153 Battalion in Kirawa, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, have intercepted three escaped abductees who fled from Nagege Sandawagri in northern Cameroon.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the three escapees were intercepted at about 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2026, by troops operating in the Kirawa area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were abducted on Sept. 14, 2026, in Sandawagri before they eventually escaped from captivity and made their way towards the Nigerian border.

The rescued victims were subsequently handed over to Cameroon’s Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) for further investigation, profiling and necessary assistance.

The development highlights the continued cross-border security challenges facing communities around the Nigeria-Cameroon border and the importance of cooperation between security forces of both countries.
