Troops Defuse Terrorist IED Planted Along Zamfara Road

ZAMFARA — Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have thwarted a potentially deadly attack after discovering and safely destroying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The explosive was uncovered following credible intelligence received by troops of Sector 2, who promptly mobilised to the area and located the device concealed along the major route.

On discovering the IED, the troops immediately secured the area to protect motorists, commuters and other road users from possible casualties.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was subsequently deployed to the location and successfully neutralised the device without incident.

Following the operation, security personnel intensified patrols and surveillance along the route as part of efforts to restrict the movement of terrorists and prevent further attempts to attack travellers and security forces.

The incident underscores the continuing threat posed by terrorists who employ explosives to target security personnel and unsuspecting civilians across parts of the North-West.

The Joint Task Force has therefore called on residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious objects, persons or movements to the relevant security agencies.

According to the task force, timely information from communities remains crucial to detecting threats early, preventing attacks and safeguarding lives within the Joint Operations Area.

The statement was signed by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma.
