Suspected Cultist Arrested as Death of Fleeing Suspect Triggers Tension in Ogun

Tension briefly gripped the Kajola community in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State after a suspected cult member reportedly died while fleeing from police operatives during an operation to foil an alleged attack.

The incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. on August 23, 2026, following a complaint by a resident identified as Anuolatoberu, who told the police that suspected members of a cult group were allegedly threatening his life.

Acting on information provided by the complainant, police investigators reportedly traced the alleged attack to the Kajola area, where the victim was said to have been ambushed by suspected cult members.

Operatives subsequently moved into the area in an attempt to apprehend those behind the alleged threat.

During the operation, one of the suspects, identified as Oluwatimileyin Daniel, was arrested, while several others reportedly took to their heels as police closed in on them.

However, one of the fleeing suspects, identified only as Damola, reportedly collapsed while attempting to escape. He was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead.

The development reportedly caused panic and heightened tension within the community, with residents becoming apprehensive over possible reprisals or further violence.

Security personnel were subsequently deployed to strengthen surveillance and prevent the situation from escalating.

The police have since brought the situation under control and commenced further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.

Authorities are also working to identify and apprehend other members of the group who reportedly escaped during the operation.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the dangers posed by cult-related activities, particularly the risk that confrontations involving suspected cult groups could spark wider unrest.
