The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather alert warning of widespread thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall across 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday.
The agency cautioned that the storm system could trigger localized flash flooding, lightning strikes, and reduced visibility, posing risks to residents, motorists, and air travel.
States expected to be impacted include Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta, alongside the FCT.
NiMet urged residents in vulnerable areas to take precautionary measures, as thunderstorms in Nigeria are often accompanied by strong winds and intense rainfall capable of causing disruptions.
The alert signals intensifying weather activity across the country, with authorities advising vigilance as the rainy season gradually sets in.
