Cows and Rams worth millions of naira are being distributed to some public agencies, charity organizations across twenty Local governments by the Bauchi state government as gifts ahead of the Eidel-Kabir celebration slated for this Wednesday.
The Secretary to the State Government, Magatakarda Aminu Hammayo who flaggedoff the distribution weekend, traced the historical event dates back to the inception of Kauran Bauchi led administration which is being done annually as a tradition and practice of Prophet Abraham, Alaihissallam, (AS).
Hammayo, who holds the traditional title of Magatakardan Misau said, “This is an established tradition that has gone on since the inception of the administration of His Excellency. We have done this year-in, year-out in consonance with the tradition of Prophet Abraham”.
Alhaji Aminu Hammayo added, “I think it’s important for us not just to appreciate this gesture of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, but to also understand that Eidel Kabir calls for sacrifice, sacrifice drawn from the teachings and practice of Prophet Abraham, AS where he made an attempt to sacrefice his son for the sake of Allah, Subhanahu-Wata’ala”.
Alh Aminu Hammayo explained that it is the tradition of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to provide support and comfort to different strata or segments of the Bauchi society, especially at this period of annual Eidel-Kabir celebration.
SSG Hammayo further stated, “This year 2026, the exercise is meant as usual to distribute animals to our leaders, political, religious, and traditional, youths, women, vulnerable, journalists, security agencies, every segment of our society”.
Magatakarda explained that what makes this year’s occasion so significant is that Governor Bala Mohammed has directed that Bauchi people who were engaged in the business of animals rearing and trade be given special attention to save them from the intrusion of improvise animals sellers.
It is for this reason, the Bauchi Government Scribe revealed, an adhoc committee led by the commissioner for budget, economic planning and multilayer coordination was set up to purchase the animals for onwards distribution to Muslims faithful.
SSG Aminu Hammayo commended the Sallah Gifts Distribution Committee for the mass purchase of quality animals, saying “the distribution flagoff would simultaneously take across every nook and cranny of the state, in Azare, Toro, Futuk, and every other place in the state.
The Sallah Gifts Distribution Committee Chairperson, Hon. Amina Mohammed Katagum said that the gesture was for Governor Bala Mohammed to physically see citizens celebrate the annual Eidel Kabir festival in a comfortable manner.
Hon. Amina Mohammed Katagum who also oversees the State Ministry for Humanitarian and Disaster Management thanked the Governor Bala Mohammed for the kind gesture to the generality of people of Bauchi state.
The commissioner disclosed that her committee has purchased adequate animals that could be distributed as gifts across twenty local government areas of the state, and prayed that the tempo would be maintained even after the exit of the present administration.
