Rivers Gov Sim Fubara Set to Boycott PDP Convention as Wike Allies Dismiss Event as “Early Christmas Party”

Political tension within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is set to boycott the PDP National Convention slated to hold in Oyo State under the coordination of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Fubara’s absence places him in the same camp as several influential PDP heavyweights—including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido—who have all opted out of the convention.

Sources close to the Wike bloc have described the event as nothing more than an “early Christmas party,” accusing organisers of prioritising optics over genuine reconciliation and party reform.

The planned boycott underscores widening cracks within the PDP as factions jostle for influence ahead of crucial political realignments. Analysts warn that the absence of key figures like Fubara could cast a shadow over the legitimacy of the convention and further complicate efforts to unify the opposition party.

With the PDP already grappling with internal distrust and competing loyalties, the upcoming convention may showcase not strength—but widening rebellion from within.
