In a dramatic twist at the ongoing Anambra governorship election, the Labour Party candidate, George Moghalu, suffered a major setback after losing his own polling unit to the incumbent governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Official results from the polling unit show that APGA polled 57 votes, while Moghalu’s Labour Party managed 22 votes, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) trailed with just 5 votes.
The outcome has sparked reactions among residents and political observers, who say it underscores Soludo’s strong grassroots support in key areas of the state.
Governor Soludo, running on the platform of APGA, is seeking re-election on the strength of his administration’s developmental strides and local governance reforms, while Moghalu had campaigned on promises of economic revival and transparency.
As vote collation continues across Anambra, analysts say the loss of Moghalu in his own polling unit could deal a psychological blow to his campaign, even as both APGA and LP await results from other wards and local governments.
