Reliable sources within the Kano State ADC Secretariat have confirmed that former Kano State Deputy Governor, HE Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, is currently engaged in active consultations with top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over a possible defection from the NDC to the ADC alongside his loyalists.
According to party insiders, a series of strategic meetings have already taken place in both Kano and Abuja, involving Gawuna’s close political associates and key stakeholders within the ADC as discussions continue to gather momentum.
Sources described the consultations as “advanced and promising,” noting that both sides are working to finalize arrangements that could pave the way for a major political realignment in Kano State.
The development has sparked excitement among ADC supporters, who view Gawuna’s potential entry into the party as a significant boost ahead of future political contests.
Party officials disclosed that if ongoing negotiations are successfully concluded, the national leadership of the ADC, including former Vice President HE Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Sen. David Mark, is expected to visit Kano to formally receive and welcome Gawuna into the party.
Political observers say such a move could reshape the political landscape in Kano, given Gawuna’s influence and extensive grassroots support across the state.
While neither Gawuna nor his representatives have publicly confirmed the planned defection, sources insist that consultations remain active and that an official announcement could be made once all arrangements are finalized.
As anticipation grows, party faithful and political watchers alike are closely monitoring developments surrounding what could become one of the most significant political defections in Kano in recent times.
