Troops of Sector 9, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), in collaboration with local youths, have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists on Latok community in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 25, when the attackers invaded the community, prompting the deployment of troops to the area.
According to security sources, the troops, supported by Bong youths, responded swiftly and engaged the attackers, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
The troops subsequently exploited the area and discovered two youths who had sustained gunshot wounds during the attack.
Two houses were also found to have been razed, while an undisclosed number of cattle were reportedly rustled by the attackers.
The injured victims were evacuated to Kwalla Hospital, where they were admitted for medical attention.
Following the attack, troops have commenced offensive operations and a manhunt to track down the fleeing criminals and recover the rustled livestock.
Security sources said the ongoing operation is aimed at preventing the attackers from regrouping and restoring confidence among residents of the affected community.
The incident underscores the continuing security challenges in parts of Plateau State, where attacks, cattle rustling and retaliatory violence have continued to threaten rural communities.
Troops have therefore intensified patrols and clearance operations across vulnerable areas while working with local communities to obtain credible intelligence on the movements of armed criminals.
