Troops Nab Motorcycle Thief, Recover Stolen Bike in Plateau

Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested a suspected motorcycle thief and recovered a motorcycle believed to have been stolen in Abuja.

The arrest was made during a routine stop-and-search operation at the Sabon Gari checkpoint in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The suspect, identified as Hosiah Alfred, was reportedly apprehended at about 5:50 a.m. on August 24, 2026, while travelling in a commercial vehicle.

Security sources said Alfred was heading towards Duklin in Bauchi State from Abuja when troops operating under Operation HARD KNOCK stopped the vehicle for inspection.

The motorcycle reportedly attracted the attention of the soldiers, who questioned Alfred about its ownership and circumstances surrounding its movement.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to stealing the motorcycle from a dispatch rider identified as Yusuf Gideon, who works for a man identified as Mr. Nonso in Abuja.

The troops subsequently took the suspect into custody along with the recovered motorcycle for further investigation.

Authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances of the alleged theft, identify and reunite the motorcycle with its rightful owner, and determine whether Alfred may be connected to other theft-related offences.

The arrest underscores ongoing security operations and checkpoint surveillance along major routes in Plateau State, as troops intensify efforts to intercept stolen property and prevent suspected criminals from moving across state borders.

Further investigation is expected to shed more light on the alleged theft and the suspect’s activities.
