Panic erupted at Cologne/Bonn Airport on Friday evening after two late passengers broke through security in a desperate attempt to board their departing flight.
The pair, who had missed the final boarding call for a Wizz Air flight to Bucharest, reportedly smashed the glass on an emergency switch and forced open a secured door, sprinting onto the tarmac as the aircraft was already pushing back from the gate.
Airport operations were briefly halted as security teams moved in. Police later confirmed that both men were apprehended and now face criminal charges for trespassing, with an additional investigation underway for possible violations of the Air Security Act.
Authorities urged travelers to adhere strictly to airport security procedures, warning that such actions pose serious risks and will be met with full legal consequences.
