Nigerian Army Dismisses Four Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram For ‘Disobeying Standing Order’

By Fatima Mukhtar

The Nigerian Army has dismissed four soldiers serving in the North-East over allegations of disobeying a standing operational order during an anti–Boko Haram operation.

Military sources confirmed that the affected personnel were part of a unit deployed to the frontline in Borno State when they allegedly violated a directive considered critical to ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

According to reports, the soldiers were subjected to an internal military trial where they were found guilty of the offence. The Army maintained that strict compliance with operational orders is essential to troop safety and mission success, especially in high-risk areas dominated by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.

A senior military officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the Nigerian Army would not tolerate any act capable of jeopardising national security or exposing fellow personnel to danger.

The dismissal has sparked mixed reactions, with some observers calling for fairness and transparency in the handling of disciplinary matters, while others insist that adherence to military orders is non-negotiable in war zones.

The Nigerian Army has not yet released the identities of the dismissed soldiers but emphasized that disciplinary measures remain vital to maintaining the integrity of ongoing operations.
