Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Calls for Nationwide Prayer for Rain

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has called for a nationwide prayer for rain to be held across all mosques on Wednesday, November 13, as the Kingdom faces prolonged dry conditions and dwindling rainfall.

The call, issued on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, urges all citizens and residents to join in Salat al-Istisqa — the Islamic prayer seeking Allah’s mercy and blessings for rain.

According to a royal statement, the prayer will be observed “in humility, repentance, and unity,” reflecting the nation’s dependence on divine grace amid the ongoing dryness affecting large parts of the Kingdom.

“The leadership calls upon everyone to turn to Allah Almighty in sincerity, asking for His forgiveness and mercy, and to perform the prayer for rain in accordance with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),” the statement read.

This spiritual appeal comes as meteorologists report below-average rainfall across much of the Arabian Peninsula in recent months, leading to concerns over agriculture, water reserves, and rural livelihoods.

Across Saudi Arabia — from Riyadh to Mecca, Medina, and the Eastern Province — mosques are expected to see massive turnout as worshippers heed the Crown Prince’s call.

Religious scholars have praised the move, noting that such collective prayers have long been part of Islamic tradition during times of drought.

“Rain is a symbol of mercy,” said one scholar in Jeddah. “When the leadership calls the nation to prayer, it reminds us that faith and unity remain our greatest strength.”

As the Kingdom prepares for this solemn day of devotion, hopes are high that the skies will soon open — answering a nation’s collective call for relief and renewal.
