‘ORDINARY PRESIDENT’ HAILS NAVAL OFFICER FOR STANDING HIS GROUND AGAINST WIKE

Ahmed Isah praises Lt. Yerima’s composure, calls him a symbol of discipline and integrity

The host of the popular Human Rights Radio and Television programme, Brekete Family, Ahmed Isah, fondly known as “Ordinary President,” has commended Lieutenant A.M. Yerima of the Nigerian Navy for his exemplary conduct during a recent confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and officials of the FCT Administration.

The incident, which has sparked widespread reactions on social media, reportedly occurred when the FCT Minister confronted the naval officer over access to a disputed parcel of land allegedly linked to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (rtd).

Despite the heated exchange, Lt. Yerima maintained calmness and professionalism, refusing to be intimidated while insisting on following due process — a stance that earned him nationwide admiration.

Commending the officer on his programme, Ahmed Isah said Lt. Yerima’s action exemplified “discipline, respect, and the true spirit of service.”

“This young officer deserves to be celebrated, not victimized,” Isah said. “He stood his ground respectfully, defended the uniform, and showed that our armed forces still have men of integrity. Nigeria needs more of his kind.”

The Brekete Family host further urged authorities to protect the naval officer from any form of retaliation, applauding the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, for publicly standing by him.

“I salute the Defence Minister for saying, ‘We will always protect our officer; he has done well.’ That’s leadership. When officers know they’ll be protected for doing the right thing, discipline and confidence will grow across our services,” Isah added.

The confrontation between Wike and the naval officer has ignited a broader national discussion on civility in governance, respect for institutions, and the balance of power between civil authorities and security personnel.

Meanwhile, several civil society groups and citizens have echoed Isah’s sentiments, describing Lt. Yerima as “the face of courage in uniform.”
