Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, supported by other security and community-based forces, have thwarted an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Juhuhi Village in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community at about 6:45 p.m. on August 23, 2026, and opened sporadic gunfire, throwing residents into panic.
During the assault, a 33-year-old resident, identified as Abdullahi Abubakar, was struck in the back by a stray bullet.
Security forces quickly mobilised in response, with troops working alongside Police tactical personnel, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters to confront the attackers.
The combined team engaged the assailants and successfully forced them to retreat from the community, preventing the attack from escalating.
Abubakar was subsequently evacuated to a hospital where he received medical attention. Security personnel also documented the incident and gathered relevant information as investigations into the attack continue.
Following the intervention of the security forces, calm returned to Juhuhi Village, while troops and other security personnel have maintained a presence in the area to deter any further attempt by the terrorists to attack the community.
The latest incident underscores the continued security challenges confronting communities in parts of Borno State, even as troops sustain operations aimed at containing terrorist activities and protecting civilians.
