A farmer in Plateau State has been injured in a machete attack allegedly carried out by a herder following a dispute over cattle grazing on farmland in Pankshin Local Government Area.
The victim, identified as Charles Tuwan, reportedly sustained machete wounds during the confrontation at Tekas Community on Sunday evening, August 23, 2026.
The incident occurred at about 6:53 p.m., prompting troops of Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE, operating under Operation HARD KNOCK, to respond to a distress report concerning the alleged assault.
According to security sources, trouble reportedly began after Tuwan objected to a herder allowing his cattle to graze on his farmland.
When the troops arrived at the scene, they found the farmer suffering from machete cuts believed to have been inflicted during the altercation.
The alleged attacker, identified as Abdullahi Saleh, was said to have escaped before the arrival of the security personnel, taking his cattle with him.
Tuwan was immediately evacuated to Pankshin General Hospital, where he was taken for medical treatment.
Security personnel have since launched efforts to track down Saleh, with a view to arresting him and subjecting him to investigation and possible prosecution.
The latest incident highlights the persistent tensions that can arise between farming and herding communities in parts of Plateau State, particularly over access to farmland and grazing areas.
Security officials and community stakeholders have continued to stress the importance of resolving such disputes quickly through dialogue and early intervention to prevent minor disagreements from developing into wider violence.
