A wave of concern has gripped Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State following the discovery of the corpse of an unidentified person with an apparent gunshot wound along a roadside.
The body was found at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, around the Farin Lamba axis, near the Primary Health Centre in Riyom.
According to security sources, troops of Sector 6, Operation ENDURING PEACE, were alerted to the discovery and promptly moved to the scene, where they found the deceased lying by the roadside with what appeared to be a gunshot injury to the stomach.
The circumstances surrounding the death, however, have raised questions among security personnel, particularly because investigators found no visible bloodstains or spent ammunition casings around the location where the body was discovered.
The absence of such evidence has prompted investigators to consider the possibility that the victim may have been killed elsewhere before the body was transported and abandoned at the roadside.
Following the discovery, troops evacuated the corpse to the mortuary at the Primary Health Centre in Riyom for safekeeping and further examination.
Security authorities also reached out to the youth leader of Tahoss Community to assist with efforts to establish the identity of the deceased and possibly trace the victim’s relatives.
Meanwhile, troops have intensified their presence around the area as investigations continue into the circumstances of the death.
Authorities are expected to determine whether the victim was killed at the location or brought there after the fatal incident occurred elsewhere.
As the investigation progresses, security personnel are also working to establish the identity of the deceased and uncover the events that led to the discovery of the body.
The incident has heightened concerns within the community, with residents awaiting answers from investigators on the identity of the victim and the circumstances behind the apparent gunshot death.
