The Hunters Group of Nigeria has accused personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in Yobe State of allegedly assaulting one of its members, an incident said to have left the victim injured and hospitalised.
In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the group claimed the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on June 4, 2026.
According to the group, the affected member was allegedly beaten by police officers without provocation or any known offence, leaving him with injuries that reportedly rendered him unable to walk unaided.
The statement further alleged that the same officers later transported the injured hunter to a hospital after realising the severity of his condition.
Describing the incident as troubling, the Hunters Group said it had become concerned over what it termed repeated cases of confrontation involving its members and security operatives in parts of the state.
The organisation maintained that its members are law-abiding and operate within the framework of the law, adding that it has consistently encouraged peaceful collaboration with security agencies in maintaining public safety.
It called on relevant authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that appropriate disciplinary action is taken where necessary.
The group also attached photographs it said showed the injuries sustained by the victim, further intensifying calls for accountability.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain the reaction of the Nigeria Police Force on the allegation were unsuccessful.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns about operational relations between informal security groups and official security agencies in parts of the country, where coordination remains critical to maintaining public order.
