A member of the National Assembly, Senator Sani Musa, has called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of funds allocated to the Nigerian military, insisting that it is time for security agencies to provide clear explanations on how budgeted resources are being utilized.
The senator made the remarks while expressing concern over the continued security challenges facing parts of the country despite significant annual budgetary provisions to the armed forces.
According to him, the National Assembly has consistently approved substantial funding for military operations, procurement of equipment, and welfare of personnel, yet Nigerians are still grappling with persistent insecurity.
“Tinubu must call the military to account for all the money. It is high time they tell us where all the resources this House has been budgeting for them are going,” he said.
Senator Musa’s comments come amid renewed public debate over security spending, accountability, and the effectiveness of ongoing counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations across the country.
Lawmakers have repeatedly raised concerns about the need for improved oversight mechanisms to ensure that defence allocations translate into measurable results on the ground.
The senator stressed that while the National Assembly remains committed to supporting the armed forces, such support must be matched with transparency and responsible use of public funds.
He added that Nigerians deserve to know how resources allocated for security are deployed, especially at a time when communities continue to face attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.
