Shockwaves have followed a startling revelation by Church of Christ in Nations cleric, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, who has publicly admitted taking part in a 1980 bank robbery in Jos—before claiming a dramatic spiritual transformation.
In an interview, the controversial preacher recounted how he was part of a gang that successfully carried out the heist, making away with large sums of money.
According to him, the operation was led by a close associate at the time. But it was his account of a supernatural encounter that has ignited fierce debate.
Dachomo claimed his life changed after a powerful spiritual experience in which he said he was delivered from “demons” and embraced a new path of faith—an encounter he insists ended his criminal lifestyle and personal vices.
“I didn’t know I would encounter God, but that moment changed everything,” he said, describing a turning point that led him to abandon crime and take up ministry.
However, the explosive confession has triggered mixed reactions nationwide.
While some see it as a testimony of redemption, others are questioning the authenticity of his claims. Among the strongest critics is Islamic scholar Yusuf Haruna, popularly known as Baban Chinedu, who dismissed the narrative as fabricated.
He alleged that the incident was a conventional armed robbery foiled by security operatives, insisting there was no supernatural intervention as claimed. According to him, Dachomo survived gunfire and was rescued by accomplices—not divine forces.
The cleric’s dramatic story has since stirred controversy across religious and public circles, with calls for verification of historical claims and caution against narratives that could inflame tensions.
