Nigeria’s top security chiefs have sounded a strong note of unity, as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, declared that a unified and coordinated approach among security agencies remains the ultimate weapon against insecurity.
He made the assertion while receiving the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during his maiden visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.
In a high-level meeting that signals renewed synergy, the police chief called for deeper collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that joint operations and intelligence sharing are critical to tackling banditry, kidnapping, and other internal security threats.
The IGP applauded the Army’s role in training Police Mobile Force personnel, noting that the partnership has significantly boosted operational efficiency across the country’s conflict zones.
Responding, the COAS congratulated Disu on his appointment as the 23rd IGP and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation, revealing that their professional bond dates back to joint service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur.
Lt.-Gen. Shaibu also acknowledged the Police Force’s support to military operations in states like Kogi, Kwara, and Niger, where joint efforts are yielding results against criminal elements.
Both leaders were unanimous: only a united front can secure Nigeria.
With renewed collaboration at the top, security watchers say the move could mark a turning point in the nation’s fight against evolving threats.
