Troops Foil Deadly Ambush in Borno, Kill 10 Boko Haram/ISWAP Fighters, Seize Weapons

Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai have crushed a planned ambush by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Borno State, killing 10 insurgents—including two senior commanders—and recovering a trove of arms.

Security sources said the clash erupted around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday during Operation Desert Sanity V/Siege Operations, when Sector 1 troops, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, walked into an enemy kill zone rigged with a roadside IED and small-arms fire.

But the soldiers were ready. They answered with overwhelming firepower, shattering the ambush. Even after an IED detonated, the troops held firm, forcing the terrorists to break ranks and flee with casualties.

Reinforcements from Ngoshe quickly sealed off escape routes along the Mandara Mountains, ambushing the fleeing fighters. A hot pursuit followed, yielding bodies and equipment abandoned along the tells.

Ten terrorists were neutralised, among them Basulhu, a key commander, and his deputy, Ubaida.

Recovered items include three AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, five motorcycles, two hand grenades, two Baofeng radios, 12 AK-47 magazines, 197 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, an RPG charger, detonating cords, batteries, and other combat gear.

Sources said the area is calm but fluid, with troops on maximum alert as clearance operations continue—another setback for terror cells operating in the North-East.
