Uba Sani Immortalises Islamic Icon, Renames KASU Qur’anic Centre After Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

KADUNA — In a gesture steeped in reverence and history, Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, has renamed the Centre for Qur’anic Science at Kaduna State University (KASU) in honour of the late Islamic scholar and spiritual luminary, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

The facility will now be known as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Centre of Excellence for Qur’anic Sciences and Memorisation, cementing the legacy of a man widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic teachers of the modern era.

Governor Sani made the announcement during the Mawlid Nabiyy (Maulid) celebration organised by Fityanul Islam in Zaria, Kaduna State. The decision, disclosed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa, was greeted with applause by scholars, clerics and followers who thronged the historic gathering.

The renaming fulfils a solemn promise Governor Sani made during a condolence visit to the Bauchi residence of the late Sheikh on December 15, 2025, days after his passing. At the time, the governor pledged that Kaduna State would immortalise the cleric’s immense contributions to Islamic scholarship, moral leadership and peaceful coexistence.

Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the revered leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order, passed away on November 26/27, 2025, at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness. His death triggered an outpouring of grief across the country, cutting across religious, ethnic and political lines.

In a parallel tribute at the national level, Bola Ahmed Tinubu also honoured the late cleric by renaming the Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare, Bauchi State, after him—an uncommon double recognition that underscores the depth of Sheikh Dahiru’s national influence.

Although the late scholar hailed from Bauchi State, Governor Sani noted that his teachings, mentorship and message of moderation resonated powerfully across Nigeria, particularly in Kaduna, where generations of students and adherents benefitted from his guidance.

Speaking at the Maulid event, Governor Sani further praised Fityanul Islam for its consistent role in promoting peace, unity and social harmony, describing the organisation as a stabilising force in society. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred governance anchored on tolerance, dialogue and mutual respect.

With the renaming of the KASU centre, Kaduna State has not only honoured a towering religious figure but has also etched his name permanently into the intellectual and spiritual architecture of higher learning—ensuring that Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi’s legacy will continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
