Security operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, have thwarted an alleged attempt to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, arresting two young women during routine screening.
The suspects—Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, aged between 19 and 20—both residents of Kano, were intercepted on December 21, 2025, as they attempted to gain entry into the facility. A thorough search reportedly uncovered suspected illicit substances believed to have been intended for distribution to inmates.
Correctional authorities described the act as a grave breach of custodial regulations and a criminal offence under Nigerian law. Following preliminary investigations, the duo were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
Reaffirming a zero-tolerance stance, the Kano Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service said it remains resolute in safeguarding custodial facilities against contraband and other illegal activities. The Command also warned visitors to strictly comply with visitation rules, stressing that any infraction will be met with the full weight of the law.
