The Katsina State Government has approved the purchase of 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, a move Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda says is aimed squarely at easing the transport burden on students and residents across the state.

The governor made the announcement while receiving the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) on a courtesy visit, a meeting that quickly turned into a listening ear for the real-life challenges facing students.

“These buses are for the people, especially our students,” Governor Radda said, explaining that the high-capacity vehicles—each able to carry up to 100 passengers—will be deployed to major cities in the state.

According to him, Daura will receive a share of the buses to serve students of tertiary institutions in the area, while others will operate in Dutsin-Ma, Malumfashi and Funtua, where students often struggle to move between hostels, campuses and town.

For many students of FUDMA, the announcement came as welcome news. Transport costs have steadily climbed, and unreliable vehicles have become a daily source of stress, sometimes affecting punctuality and academic performance.

Governor Radda noted that introducing large, modern buses would significantly reduce overcrowding, cut waiting time and restore some dignity to students’ daily commutes.

The governor also responded positively to another request from the Vice-Chancellor—this time for a tractor to support the university’s operations. He assured that one would be released to the institution after due process is completed.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education, Governor Radda said the state would continue to support FUDMA, stressing that the university’s growth directly benefits Katsina’s young population.

“Our students deserve support,” he said. “When we make their journey easier, we also help them focus on learning and achieving excellence.”

With the approval of the hybrid CNG buses, Katsina is not just investing in cleaner transport—it is putting relief, hope and opportunity on wheels for its students.
