UMYU Promotes 113 Academic Staff, Welcomes New Pro-Chancellor

Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has announced the promotion of 113 academic staff as part of key decisions taken during the institution’s 56th Governing Council meeting held on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The meeting also marked the official reception of the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, CFR (Marusan Katsina), who was warmly welcomed by the university community. His appointment is described as a significant step toward strengthening academic excellence and driving transformative growth at the institution.

During the meeting, the Council approved major staff advancements effective from October 1, 2025. Nineteen academic staff were promoted to the rank of Professor, 20 became Readers, while 31 staff were elevated to Senior Lecturer. Seventeen staff advanced to Lecturer I, and 26 to Lecturer II. Additionally, 36 staff were converted across various cadres and upgraded to higher ranks.

The Council also approved a 100% upward review of the wages of university cleaners, a move described as a demonstration of commitment to staff welfare across all levels.

Senator Sirika pledged loyalty, cooperation and support to the entire university community, including all four in-house staff unions, promising to work closely with stakeholders for the continuous progress of the institution.

The Governing Council further commended the university management under the leadership of Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad for effectively steering the affairs of the institution.
