Shettima Storms Lagos as Fayose Marks 65th in Grand Style

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday joined political heavyweights, business leaders and close associates in Ikeja, Lagos, to celebrate the 65th birthday of former Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency Ayo Fayose.

The event, held in an atmosphere of colour, camaraderie and statesmanlike reflections, drew an impressive gathering that underscored Fayose’s continued influence in Nigeria’s political landscape. Dignitaries poured into the venue from across the country, turning the celebration into a mini–national convergence.

Vice President Shettima, who arrived to warm applause, described Fayose as “a fearless democrat whose political journey has left indelible footprints.” He commended the former governor for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic growth, noting that age 65 marks a chapter of renewed wisdom and national service.

Fayose, visibly delighted, expressed gratitude for the honour of having the Vice President and many well-wishers at his celebration. He spoke about unity, forgiveness, and the need for Nigeria’s leaders to continue building bridges across party lines.

The ceremony featured prayers, tributes and light-hearted moments as guests shared stories about Fayose’s resilience, political instincts and famously bold style. Friends described him as a man who “laughs loudly, fights boldly, and loves deeply.”

Cultural performances, a brief thanksgiving session, and a toast rounded off the evening, sealing what many attendees called a “memorable milestone” for the former Ekiti leader.

As Shettima departed, he reiterated the importance of celebrating leaders who have contributed to the nation’s progress, regardless of political differences. The event, observers noted, symbolised the growing spirit of political maturity and mutual respect among Nigeria’s top figures.
