Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of world-renowned Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed away at the age of 98.
His death was confirmed early Thursday by his son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who told journalists that the revered scholar had returned to his Creator, praying for Allah’s mercy upon him.
According to reports from Daily Trust, Vanguard, Premium Times and Leadership Newspapers, the Sheikh died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness associated with old age.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi devoted more than seven decades to Islamic scholarship, Qur’anic teaching and spiritual guidance. His annual Tafsir sessions in Bauchi attracted thousands of followers, while many more joined from across Nigeria and beyond.
Condolences have begun pouring in from Islamic organisations, political leaders and students across the world. The Bauchi State Government described him as a towering figure in Islamic scholarship whose teachings shaped generations.
Funeral arrangements are being made in Bauchi, with further details expected from his family and the Darul Qur’an Foundation.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi leaves behind a legacy of knowledge, thousands of students and institutions dedicated to the propagation of Islamic education. His contributions to peace, moral guidance and spiritual development will be remembered for generations.
