Niger State—Security operatives have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against livestock rustling after recovering 22 cows and 10 sheep and arresting two suspected rustlers in Shiroro Local Government Area.
The incident unfolded around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday when livestock owner Hassan Usman of Navi Fulani Camp near Gwada spotted animals he recognized as his stolen herd in the possession of two men. Acting swiftly, he alerted security personnel stationed in the area.
Operatives immediately moved in and apprehended the suspects, identified as Buhari Bello of Saminaka in Lapai LGA and Sidi Abdullah of Lefu via Lambata in Gurara LGA. All 22 cows and 10 sheep were recovered intact and handed back to the rightful owner.
Sources disclosed that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the rustling and will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
