Maiduguri Shines as Young Scholars Emerge Champions in Second Quiz Debate Contest

A total of eight public schools across Maiduguri Metropolitan Council have showcased their academic strength in the second edition of the Quiz and Debate Competition held in Maiduguri. The annual contest, designed for both primary and junior secondary school pupils, drew enthusiastic participation as children engaged in rigorous rounds of intellectual competition.

In the Primary School Quiz category, Zanjeri Liberty Primary School clinched first place, Gwange II Primary School secured second position, while Asheikh Jarma Mega Primary School finished third. For the Primary School Debate, Mafoni Liberty Primary School took the top spot, followed by Ali Dangote Primary School in second place and Maisandari Primary School in third.

At the Junior Secondary School level, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo Secondary School emerged winner of the Quiz competition, with Gwange II Junior Secondary School placing second and Federal Low-Cost Junior Secondary School taking third position. In the JSS Debate category, Mafoni Liberty secured second place, while Alaskiri Junior Secondary School came third.

The event, which attracted pupils, teachers, and school heads from across the metropolis, was held in an atmosphere filled with excitement as students demonstrated confidence, eloquence and a strong command of academic content.

Dignitaries present included representatives of His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno; the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe; the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo; and several other invited guests who applauded the learners for their brilliance.

Bringing the event to a close, the Education Secretary of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Professor Umar Goni, commended the pupils for their outstanding performance and growing interest in academic competitions. He said the initiative was conceived to strengthen learning processes, enhance communication skills and promote unity among schools. Professor Goni added that the competition has recorded remarkable improvement compared to the maiden edition and praised teachers and school administrators for their unwavering commitment to nurturing young learners.

He urged students to remain dedicated to their studies and encouraged parents to continue supporting their children, describing education as the most powerful tool for securing a brighter future for Maiduguri and Borno State at large.
