The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has called on the military to provide a full explanation for reports that soldiers withdrew from their posts just minutes before the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in the state.
Governor Idris said the sudden withdrawal left communities in distress and demanded urgent clarification on why areas that required tight security were left unguarded.
In an official statement, the governor expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that schools and children must always be fully protected. He urged security authorities to disclose whether any orders were given that led to the withdrawal and to outline measures that would prevent such occurrences in the future.
Parents and community members directly affected by the abduction are demanding accountability and immediate action. The state government has assured the public that it will continue to pursue answers from all relevant security agencies until a satisfactory explanation is provided.
The incident has reignited debates over the adequacy of security measures at schools in northern Nigeria and the responsibility of security forces in protecting vulnerable communities.
