The Katsina State Government has announced the sudden shutdown of all public schools across the state, following new intelligence reports indicating heightened security risks and potential attacks on learning centres.
The directive, issued through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, instructs school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to comply without delay as authorities review the security situation across the state.
According to the statement, the decision became necessary to safeguard the lives of pupils and staff amid growing concerns over possible attacks on schools. Officials say the government is monitoring the situation closely and will announce further steps after assessing security reports from affected areas.
Parents and guardians have reacted with a mix of concern and relief, noting that although the closure disrupts learning, the safety of children must come first. Some have called for stronger measures to ensure schools are properly secured before reopening.
The government emphasised that the closure is temporary and part of a broader strategy to prevent school attacks, especially in vulnerable communities already dealing with banditry and kidnapping incidents.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts intensify to stabilise the situation and protect educational institutions across Katsina State.
