— Warns Peddlers of Fake News to Desist or Face Prosecution
The Katsina State Police Command has dismissed as false and mischievous a viral report claiming that a footballer, Nana Abraham of Barau FC, was slaughtered by fans of Katsina United FC during a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
In a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, and issued on Monday, November 10, 2025, the police described the report as “a calculated attempt to breach the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.”
“Nana Abraham is safe and accounted for,” the statement clarified, adding that preliminary investigations confirmed that all players, staff, and officials involved in the match are safe, with no report of any assault or violence before, during, or after the encounter.
The Command noted that adequate security measures were in place throughout the game and that the NPFL had already reviewed incidents from the match, sanctioned the home team where necessary, and made no mention of any player’s death.
Reiterating its commitment to public safety, the police warned mischief makers to desist from spreading fake news capable of inciting unrest.
“Spreading false information that could cause a breach of public peace is an offence punishable by law. We will not hesitate to track down and prosecute anyone found guilty,” the PPRO cautioned.
Residents were further advised to rely only on verified information from credible sources, while the Command assured that under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, MNIM, it remains unwavering in its duty to protect lives and property across Katsina State.
