An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated on Wednesday morning at Lingir Village in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, injuring four occupants of a truck transporting bags of onions from Baga in Kukawa LGA to Maiduguri.
The blast, which occurred at approximately 1030 hours, struck the vehicle with registration number XA 504 GSH (Yobe), severely damaging it and leaving the driver, Umar Isah (25), and three passengers — Suleiman Isa (22), Ibrahim Bala (25), and Umar Hassan (22) — with varying degrees of injuries. All four victims are residents of Maiduguri.
Security sources disclosed that the explosion was triggered when the moving truck rolled over the concealed device, suspected to have been planted by ISWAP terrorists operating in the area.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI swiftly mobilized to the scene, cordoning off the blast site, conducting photographic documentation, and searching for secondary explosives. No additional devices were discovered.
The injured victims were evacuated to General Hospital Monguno for initial treatment before being referred to State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, where they remain hospitalized but are responding positively to medical care.
The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by terrorist elements in Borno’s hinterlands, even as military operations continue to degrade their capabilities across the Lake Chad region.
