Katsina — In a bold show of civic duty and festive-season vigilance, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals in Katsina State on Saturday, December 13, 2025, stormed the streets with a high-energy public enlightenment rally aimed at saving lives on the highways.
The rally, held at the ever-busy NARTO Motor Park, formed part of the 2025 Ember Months Road Safety Campaign and was themed “Obeying Traffic Rules and Regulations.” With the Yuletide travel rush gathering momentum, the message was clear: safety must come before speed, profit or celebration.
Led by the Deputy Route Commander (Public Education), Babajo Shamsudeen, alongside the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, Alhaji Dr. Sani Yaradua, the campaign team engaged drivers, conductors and passengers in direct conversations on responsible driving. The emphasis was on focus behind the wheel, avoidance of distractions, and taking personal responsibility for one another’s safety on the road.
The rally enjoyed strong support from members of the NYSC Road Safety Club and regular FRSC personnel, transforming the exercise into a colourful procession of uniforms, banners and sirens that drew attention across the city.
Starting from the FRSC Sector Command premises, the convoy moved through strategic locations in Katsina, with major stops at the NARTO and NURTW offices within the Central Motor Park, where transport operators were urged to key into the safety campaign and enforce compliance among their members.
Speaking on behalf of the Sector Commander, Babajo Shamsudeen issued a stern warning to motorists against number-plate violations, including covering vehicle registration numbers or using unauthorised plates. He stressed that such infractions could raise security concerns and may be treated as indicators of criminal intent.
“Anyone arrested for these offences will face the full force of the law,” he warned, urging motorists to keep their vehicles roadworthy and compliant at all times.
The campaign also spotlighted the often-unsung role of FRSC Special Marshals, the volunteer arm of the Corps. Drawn from all walks of life—professionals, engineers, teachers, civil servants, business people and other Nigerians of proven integrity—the Special Marshals donate their time and skills to road-safety advocacy, enforcement support and emergency rescue operations.
As the festive season approaches, the rally reinforced the urgent need for heightened awareness, reminding road users that most crashes are preventable when rules are obeyed and distractions avoided.
By mobilising Special Marshals, NYSC volunteers and FRSC officers in a visible, city-wide campaign through key transport hubs, the initiative underscored a collective commitment to reducing road crashes and ensuring a crash-free Yuletide in Katsina State.
Wrapping up the programme, the Chairman of the Central Motor Park, Alhaji Murtala Dandume, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the FRSC for its sustained efforts, assuring stakeholders of continued cooperation to protect lives and property.
The Katsina rally mirrors the nationwide Ember Months campaign launched by the FRSC under the banner “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” a message consistently amplified in the state by Sector Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede—as authorities race against time to keep Nigeria’s roads safe this festive season.
