What began as a routine commercial trip from Abuja to Kogi State has spiralled into a troubling tale of trust betrayed, alleged police lapses and a car that simply vanished.
The driver, whose ordeal dates back to 2024, said he met a well-spoken man in Abuja who negotiated a trip to Kogi State. The passenger, described as calm and respectful, reportedly won his confidence by even paying for fuel before the journey began.
Trouble, however, started on arrival in Kogi. According to the driver, the man claimed his “boss” did not receive unexpected visitors and asked him to hand over the vehicle temporarily, promising to return shortly. Trusting the assurance, the driver released the car—only to wait in vain.
Moments later, the shocking truth emerged: the compound had a back exit. The passenger, the driver alleged, had disappeared with the car.
In a desperate bid to recover his vehicle, the driver claimed he paid ₦500,000 to the police for tracking efforts, but months passed with no success. No car. No suspect.
Frustrated and out of options, he later took his story to social media on the advice of friends. That post, he said, cracked the case open—at least briefly. A Lagos-based company reportedly contacted him, claiming the same man had recently sought employment with them, only to allegedly abscond with company property. The suspect was later arrested and detained.
The driver rushed to Lagos, facilitated the transfer of the case to Kogi State and said the suspect confessed, naming the person who bought the stolen car. Police, he claimed, arrested the alleged buyer as well.
Then came another twist.
After receiving an urgent call about a family emergency and briefly stepping away, the driver said he returned to discover that the suspect had been released. Today, he insists, there is still no car and no suspect in custody.
The matter has since been escalated, with the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State reportedly assuring that investigations would be revisited.
For the driver, the journey that began as a simple Abuja–Kogi run has turned into a long, unanswered road—one marked by broken promises, unanswered questions and a vehicle that vanished without a trace.
