Fayose–Obasanjo Birthday Clash Erupts Into Public Firestorm

A mild celebration turned into a political spectacle on Monday after former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, launched a blistering attack on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of making “irresponsible” remarks during his 65th birthday ceremony—and demanding a refund of money allegedly given to the elder statesman.

In a fiery message that quickly set social media ablaze, Fayose accused Obasanjo of descending to “a very irresponsible level” during his speech, adding that he held back from responding at the event “so the world would know the difference between a sane and a mad man.”

Fayose didn’t stop there. He went on to suggest the former President was showing signs of “dementia,” insisting Obasanjo “belongs in the zoo,” and concluding with a demand: “Lastly, I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received it.”

But Obasanjo, never one to shy away from a counterpunch, fired back almost immediately.

In a terse, pointed reply, Obasanjo said: “Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag… unopened by me.” He added that Fayose’s message “undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable.”

What began as a birthday celebration has now morphed into a full-blown political drama—one that Nigeria will certainly be watching closely.
