FALSE ALARM AT MAIDUGURI SCHOOL: POLICE RESTORE CALM WITH SWIFT RESPONSE

The Borno State Police Command has dispelled widespread rumours of an attack at Government Girls College, Maiduguri, after a brief panic early Monday morning sent students rushing in fear.

At about 7:30am, a distress call raised concerns of an alleged intrusion, prompting Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Garba Audu Bosso, to lead a rapid-response team to the school. Officers conducted an immediate on-the-spot assessment.

Preliminary findings revealed that the chaos stemmed from a momentary pandemonium near the staff quarters gate, where some students claimed they had sighted unidentified individuals behind the school fence. The scare triggered a minor stampede — but no injuries or loss of life were recorded.

Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, urged residents to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified reports, warning that such misinformation could spark needless panic.

The police confirmed that normalcy has since returned, and assured the public that further details would be shared as investigations continue.

ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining safety across the state.
