The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has expressed its commitment to becoming a focal point for electric vehicle education and training in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Olufemi Peters, made this known during a courtesy visit by an electric motor company, which pledged to donate electric vehicles to the university.

Professor Peters stated that the university can serve as a hub for electric vehicle training and education, particularly at the technical and vocational levels.

He noted that major automobile companies will soon start importing electric vehicles, creating a need for skilled personnel to maintain and service them.

The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the collaboration between NOUN and the electric motor company, saying it would be a significant development for the future.

The Chief Executive Officer of Electric Motor Company, Prince Mustapha Audu, presented one of the donated electric vehicles to NOUN and promised to deliver the second one within a week.

Price Audu explained that electric vehicles are the future of transportation, citing the global shift towards sustainable energy and the impending ban on combustion engine vehicles by 2030.

The CEO Audu stated that his company is building the capacity of young Nigerians to provide electric vehicle technology and services, not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.

He emphasized that electric vehicles are cheaper to procure and operate, and will significantly reduce pollution and emissions from the transportation sector.

The Director of Centre for Human Resource Development at NOUN, Professor Aminu Umar, expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying it would leverage NOUN’s widespread reach to advance electric vehicle education and infrastructure in Nigeria.
