EFCC Returns ₦42.5m to 70-Year-Old Widow Defrauded by Bank Officer in Kaduna

In a heartwarming act of justice, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned a recovered sum of ₦42.5 million to Mrs. Margret Taye Odofin, a 70-year-old widow and retiree who fell victim to a fraudulent investment scheme orchestrated by her former bank officer.

The official handover took place on Thursday, November 2025, at the EFCC Kaduna Zonal Directorate, where Acting Director Bawa Kaltungo presented a bank draft to Mrs. Odofin on behalf of EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

According to the Commission, the money was recovered from Mrs. Kehinde Olawale Yusuf, a former account and investment officer of a new-generation bank, who allegedly siphoned ₦47 million from Odofin’s account between November and December 2020. Yusuf reportedly lured the widow into investing in a bogus Ponzi scheme, promising a quarterly return of ₦1.7 million, before fleeing to the United Kingdom after diverting the funds.

Despite her escape abroad, EFCC operatives traced and successfully recovered the stolen money through painstaking investigations and inter-agency collaboration.
