In a firm but passionate charge, the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Peace FM Maiduguri, Abba Mohammed Dikko, has called on the leadership of the Radio, Television and Theatre Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) in Borno State to revive the union’s fading influence and restore its legacy of excellence.
Dikko gave the charge on Monday while receiving executives of RATTAWU who visited him to congratulate him on his appointment as the substantive General Manager of Peace FM. The meeting, held at the station’s Broadcasting House, quickly turned into a frank conversation about the future of the once-vibrant union.
Clearly concerned, Dikko lamented what he described as the union’s declining vibrancy in recent years, noting that RATTAWU, once “a household name respected across Borno,” had become a shadow of its former self. He urged the current leadership to “wake the union from slumber” and reclaim its rightful place in the state’s media landscape.
As part of efforts to strengthen the partnership, the General Manager announced a weekly thirty-minute free airtime slot dedicated to showcasing RATTAWU’s activities and promoting its programmes. He also encouraged the union’s leadership to maintain regular engagement with government institutions to enhance its capacity and relevance.
Earlier, RATTAWU’s Borno State Chairman, Comrade Adamu Isa, praised Dikko’s appointment and expressed optimism about a renewed working relationship with the station’s management. He urged members within Peace FM to demonstrate greater commitment, stressing that the union can only thrive when its members uphold its ideals.
Similarly, the Chairman and Secretary of the RATTAWU Peace FM chapter, Waziri Askira and Ruth Medugu, called on members to recommit themselves to the union’s growth, describing unity and active participation as key to RATTAWU’s revival.
With Dikko’s call echoing across the station’s corridors, union leaders now face renewed pressure — and opportunity — to restore RATTAWU’s strength and reclaim its long-standing glory in Borno State.
