Burkina Faso Takes Control: Government Acquires All TotalEnergies Stations, Rebrands as Baraka Energies

In a bold move signaling a new era of economic sovereignty, Burkina Faso has taken full ownership of all French-owned TotalEnergies fuel stations operating within the country, officially rebranding the network as Baraka Energies.

The landmark transition, announced over the weekend, marks the end of decades of foreign control in the retail fuel sector and positions Burkina Faso to retain every franc of revenue generated from its national energy market.

Under the new arrangement, all profits from Baraka Energies will stay within Burkina Faso—with none repatriated to France or any external company—reflecting the government’s push toward strengthening domestic ownership of strategic industries.

Officials say the shift is part of a broader policy aimed at boosting national economic independence, creating jobs, and ensuring that the country’s natural and commercial resources directly benefit Burkinabè citizens.

Across major cities, the familiar TotalEnergies branding has already begun giving way to the new Baraka Energies identity, a symbol many residents describe as “a reclaiming of national pride.”

Energy analysts say the acquisition could reshape the country’s petroleum market, while supporters hail it as a significant step toward reducing foreign influence in key sectors of the Burkinabè economy.

The government is expected to release additional details on operational structures and future investments in the coming days.
