Bayero University, Kano (BUK) stormed into the 27th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) tournament in blazing fashion, thrashing Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBU) 55–11 in their opening female basketball encounter at the University of Jos on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Leading the onslaught was the sensational Princess Zaki, who single-handedly poured in 38 of BUK’s 55 points, dazzling fans with her sharp shooting, swift dribbles, and unmatched court control. Her performance left the arena roaring as spectators hailed her as the standout star of the tournament’s opening day.
BUK’s dominance was complete from start to finish, with team captain Theresa David, alongside Cherry, Fatima, and Eunice, showing perfect chemistry and coordination that overwhelmed their opponents.
The spectacular victory drew waves of applause from fellow universities and fans, many describing it as a “masterclass in teamwork and athletic brilliance.”
Reacting after the match, BUK’s Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, praised the players for their exceptional display and urged them to keep the momentum alive. “You have made the university proud,” he said. “We will ensure your efforts are rewarded.”
Head Coach Sunusi Shuaibu (Badway) attributed the triumph to hard work and discipline, noting that the team’s preparation was paying off. “This is just the beginning. We’re focused, confident, and ready for our next challenge against Niger Delta University,” he added.
For her part, MVP Princess Zaki credited the team’s success to unity and determination. “We came here for gold, and this win proves we’re ready for it,” she said with a smile.
With this emphatic start, the BUK female basketball squad has sent a clear warning to rivals — they’re not in Jos to participate; they’re here to dominate.
